DUNSTAN BABY LANGUAGE
Listening to Your Baby
The real skill of Dunstan Baby Language – once you have mastered the sounds of the words that is – is to differentiate between when your baby is trying to communicate, and when they are just making random sounds.
Audible signs and cues your baby gives
One of the most basic of these is breathing. In the first few weeks following birth, spend time listening to your baby breathe. Do this while she is doing various activities – sleeping, eating, changing positions, lying down – so that you begin to be familiar with her unique patterns of breathing.
For example, many babies demonstrate what is known as periodic breathing when they sleep. Cycling through period of rapid breathing, shallow breathing, and short non-breathing pauses.
As much as this might completely terrify new moms, it is completely normal. Knowing her usual style can both alert you to any irregularities in the future and prevent you from experiencing panic over non-existent problems.
Dunstan Baby Language will help you understand not only what your baby is saying, but also when your baby is just playing with their voice.
Most babies are nose-breathers, so be prepared for a cheerful combination of snorts, gurgles, hiccups, and whistling. In addition to breathing, there are many other sounds your baby will make, including squeals, cries, laughs, grunts, growls, and babbles.
Sometimes, these noises are simply your baby experimenting with his developing body and enjoying the vibration of sounds in his throat. Other times, it is your child attempting to communicate with you in her own language. Training in the Dunstan Baby Language will help you understand not only what your baby is saying, but also when you baby is just happily playing with their voice.
Listening to your baby can be a very important step in understanding his needs and feelings. A sighing baby may be expressing contentment or fatigue, while a crying baby might be signalling a dirty diaper or displeasure over a delayed mealtime. After deciphering your baby’s own unique language, your bond will be immeasurably strengthened and much of the stress of misunderstanding will be a thing of the past.
